Come and see LONDON 2012 SECTION See what we have been doing OLYMPIC COMPETITION WINNERS Well done to everybody who entered our Olympic competitions to design and make an Olympic Torch and design an Olympic Medal for Ashford. The winning torch was designed by Abby from year 6 with Tabith from Yr 3 coming 2 nd and Ruby Yr 2 in 3 rd.place. Sebastian achieved 1 st place in the Medal Competition with Carrie coming 2 nd and Lucy 3 rd, all three pupils were from Year 6. The winning entries from both competitions have been put forward to represent Mersham in the next round at the North School. GOVERNING BODY MEMBERSHIP We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Louise Bingham for her contribution to the school in her role as school governor. She has regrettably had to resign her post due to work commitments. Whilst we did not receive any applications to the recent request for a new parent governor, if there is any parent who has been considering the role and thinks they would like to know more please contact the school office as the appointment remains open. COMPLIANCE VISIT SUCCESS The school has once again undergone a successful compliance visit carried out by the local authority who audits all aspects of the Finance and Financial Governance of the school. The school was found to have excellent systems in place with a clear and precise audit trail. Well done to Mrs Carola Gostling for all her hard work in this area. MATHLETICS Mathletics is an e-learning maths programme for use in schools to support Maths teaching, and on Tuesday four pupils from years 5 & 6, were invited to Brabourne school for a competition using this resource. Jacqueline, Liam, Harrison & Louis E were chosen to represent Mersham and we are delighted to inform you that as a team they came 2 nd overall each achieving a bronze certificate, with Liam coming 3 rd individually. An excellent result particularly as they had no prior experience of using the computer based programme. Well done! BOWLES WEEK SKI AWARDS Well done to all of Year 6 who enjoyed a very busy week at Bowles outdoor centre at the end of last term. Among the many activities which the group took part in, Skiing proved to be a clear favourite. All pupils achieved ski awards ranging from Blue Level 1 to Red Level 5. Congratulations on your success!
